![]() We want to sync all midi equipment to one device, for example an Guitar effect generator with midi out. The problem we are facing is that there are many effects which are timed, like a timed delay. This was even more embarassing, cuz Mike, the engineer, had just been thru the exact same problem with the previous week's session keyboard player! I guess I was lucky that there weren't too many other good keyboard guys around, because these producer-remixers did call me to work for em again. You had to do one pass of the entire song, feeding SMPTE Time Code from the tape into one input on the SBX-80 synchronizer and either the click track from the multi-track tape recorder or your own taps into the other input on the SBX-80, thus allowing the SBX-80 to 'learn' the tempo - in effect create a tempo map (beat 1 measure 1 = 85.06bpm, beat 2 measure 1 = 87.43 e.g.) THEN the NEXT pass you played, the music in the sequencer would line up fine with the music on the tape tracks. I was convinced that I could tap the button on the SBX-80 synchronizer in time with the music, and it would trigger the sequencer I was using at the time (a Prophet Polysequencer or else a Yamaha QX-7 - I don't think I had the LinnSequencer yet.) to play the pattern(s) I'd recorded in it, in time with the track(s) on tape. I'm not unfamiliar with this problem (not the New Wave one, though that too )īack in the earlyish 80's, I was working on a Steve Thompson/Mike Barbiero remix session, among other things using my Roland SBX-80 to lock up to the tune's click track, which was the tempo recorded on a track. ![]() I repeat: You cannot use the CC in tap-pad mode only the backslash-return method. IN DP6 there is a bug that prevents you from erasing a MIDI event in the COMMANDS window, so if you try it and wish to delete it, the best thing you can do is to set the source to some MIDI device that will never be sending out the CC# you just entered. I suggest using a remote control keyboard or something if you can't have the computer keyboard next to you. Tapping the Backslash key actually acts as a tap pad. 2nd, it only make it possible to enter a tempo by typing in the numbers, not tapping. first of all, you don't have a return key. ![]() on my testing it, it doesn't appear it will work the same way with a CC#. (Search Commands Window for "Tap to Enter Tempo," or just "Tap," and you'll find it) BUT. PS: I checked, and yes you can add a cc to do this, but I don't recommend that you try it it doesn't work the same. Incidentally, this only works in Tempo Slider mode. I haven't checked, but I assume you can set that up in the COMMANDS window to accept a CC #. The tempo will change to represent the timing between the taps you just made. Tap it in time with your drummer, and after the 2nd or 3rd tap, hit Return. It's above the Return Key on most keyboards. But the most useful is probably the Backslash Key. Another involves tapping with a mouse in a certain area on DP's interface (around the control panel tempo readout it should be in the manual). One is the tap-tempo you just metioned, in which you "conduct" the entire song, beat by beat. There are three Tap-Tempo features in DP. You don't need to use a CC, but you probably can. 500 bones down the drain because my drummer can't keep time. I don't want to have to buy Ableton Live for this single use if I can help it. ![]() ![]() Alternatively, I can't seem to find a place to map a CC to the tempo slider. I have tried using Tap Tempo, but that really just advances the playback of the song beat by beat, it doesn't reset the tempo the way "tap tempo" works on the Fantom 68 with the f6 key, or the way the Yamaha ES did. I can be reasonably close with the tempo when we start out, but once we get going, "drummer drift" sets in, and then the arpeggiator is, of course, playing to the wrong tempo. My Omnisphere arpeggiator is awesome, but plays to the tempo of the song I have loaded. but can't seem to figure out a way to use a MIDI CC or some other "quick" method to synch to a live drummer.
